The winter issue of our Beautiful Design Made Simple digital magazine is now available on Apple and Android devices. The New Year inspires our desires (very poetic!) to refresh ourselves and our homes.  Then there’s the reality check of desire vs. our bank account since unlike buying the latest trendy shade of lipstick or eye shadow which are relatively minor indulgences, redecorating our homes can be costly. So what follows are easy, low maintenance ways to stay on trend, within budget and keep our sanity in tact.

RADIATE JOY: ADD A POP OF COLOR– Pantone announced that the color of the year is Radiant Orchid 18-3224 LOVE LOVE LOVE it since it’s a beautiful blend of purple, fuchsia and pink (MY personal fave!) The color inspires confidence and most importantly joy, love and health so bring it on home!

• Paint! Update a room you’ve been thinking of refreshing with this bold happy color
• Accessorize! Simply add colorful Radiant Orchid accessories like pillows and throws to your couches, chairs and bedding.  It’s an inexpensive way to be on trend without doing anything drastic that you may grow tired of in a few months. Radiant Orchid is also a terrific accent color to subtle colors like beige and grey or deeper hues like teal and yellows.

STYLE UNDERFOOT - 2014 FLOORING TRENDS

Your floor creates a beautiful canvas on which you can build and inspired space. Flooring trends tend to be more subtle than more replaceable pieces in your home. This year’s flooring trends offer new ideas that will update your space but still leave room to incorporate new trends in the future.

Look for deep, dark stains, blacks and even grays in 2014 hardwood looks.   You’ll also see wood with more character and texturing - not just hand-scraping, but also wire brush detail.  We are also seeing broader variations in graining and color. You’ll see an enormous amount of color difference within flooring – a deep coffee color with a blond variation in the same species of wood creates a unique look.
