Spilled candle wax can pose a cleaning challenge as it drips, hardens, and adheres to carpet fibers. Fortunately, you can easily remove candle wax from your carpet without the need for a hair dryer or risking your favourite white terry cloth towel. These methods will ensure your carpet looks its best, even after a candle wax mishap.
Step 1: Scrape off all the wax.
Step 2: Cover the affected area with brown Kraft paper or butcher paper.
Step 3: Apply warm iron until the remaining wax is absorbed. Be sure the paper is large enough to cover the stained area. Take care not to touch the iron on the carpet, as the fiber might melt.
Step 4: Change paper or rotate to a clean area and repeat the same steps until all wax material is absorbed.
Step 1: Scrape or blot up excess spills with a paper towel.
Step 2: Freeze with ice cubes.
Step 3: Shatter with a blunt object like the back of a large spoon.
Step 4: Vacuum-dried wax chips away before they melt.
1. Detergent: Mix 1/2 teaspoon clear dishwashing detergent with one cup of warm (not hot) water.
2. Pre-soak Solution: Mix 1 teaspoon enzyme laundry detergent (such as Axion, Biz, or others) with one cup of water.
3. Dry Powder Cleaner: Use powdered carpet cleaners.
4. Dry Cleaning Solvent: Non-oily, non-caustic type sold as spot removal for garments. Caution: May be flammable.
While getting candle wax out of carpet may be time-consuming, it can be done with the methods provided above. As long as you act promptly and follow the right methods, getting wax out of carpet is generally manageable.
Following the proper removal methods to remove candle wax from carpet should minimize the chances of a noticeable stain. If you notice any residual stains, use a carpet stain remover to gently clean the affected area.
While a hair dryer can be used to soften the spilled candle wax, it's not as effective as an iron. The high heat level that comes from an iron helps to melt and lift the wax, making it easier to remove.
No matter how you’ve ended up with candle wax in your carpet, these methods are sure to provide you with ways to safely remove wax spills. By following the instructions above to clean candle wax stains, you can rest assured that your carpet will be free from damage and stains.
